Day 10 ~ “What if . . . I might” Poem for #NationalPoetryMonth and "30 poems in 30 days"

This is basically a “finish the sentence” type of poetry form.

This is a poem that will get you thinking of many possibilities; some thoughtful, others silly, some adventurous, or even fanciful, some surprisingly profound. Let your imagination go or reach deep into your heart.

SEVEN LINES:

Fill in the blanks any way you want – changing the words you can create dozens of poems.

No rhyming required unless you choose to rhyme any of the words.

Line #1:  What if ____________________________
Line #2:  I might ____________________________

(leave a space between lines 2 & 3)

Line #3:  What if ____________________________
Line #4:  I could _____________________________

(leave a space between lines 4 & 5)

Line #5:  What if ____________________________
Line #6:  I would_____________________________

(leave a space between lines 6 & 7)

Line #7:  Ask a question.

Here’s a wonderful example poem from a delightful participant in a poetry workshop I presented last month (used with permission):

What if I kissed a big fat frog?
I might gain a rich handsome prince.

What if I took the big frog home?
I might live happily after, since

What if he did become a prince?
I might be quite famous, I ken*;

But then I’d have to consider:
I might have to kiss him again.

Here’s one I wrote years ago:

What if I danced in the rain?
I might get a little bit wet.

What if I sang at the top of my lungs?
I could land a singing contract, I bet.

What if I went back inside and sat down?
I would never know what I might do.

I wonder, would you be so bold, if it were you?

I’ve spent considerable time researching the poetry forms and writing them up to share with you. Thanks for respecting my work.

I took a liberty or two with how many lines there were, but you get the gist of it. Here you go:

“What if ... I might” Poem

What if I were a bird?
I might fly high into the sky.

What if am afraid of heights?
I could settle on being a chicken.

What if I got round a plump?
I would end up as a soup!

Do I really want to be a chicken?

—————or—————-

What if I were a flightless bird?
I might be one of eight.

What if I like to swim?
I could be a penguin and fly through the water.

What if I don’t like the cold?
I would move to New Zealand.

Do I really want to be blue?
.......

The blue or little penguin (Eudyptula minor), also known in Maori as korora, can be found in many places around New Zealand and Southern Australia and is the world's smallest penguin. They only come ashore under the cover of darkness and live underground in burrows.

I ended up doing a second poem of this style; thought I'd share it here. I love doing this poem-a-day challenge. Thanks for putting it together.

What if walked into the desert unprepared?
I might get extremely thirsty and dehydrated.

What if I began to hallucinate?
I might think I am walking toward an evergreen oasis.

What if my hallucination was actually really, really there?
I might quench my thirst with a mimosa, the scent of jasmine tickling my mind.

Why doesn’t everyone walk into the desert unprepared?

Ugh, had family over and have dropped behind. But here's something silly.

What if a kitten wore a mitten?
I might be awed and very smitten.

What if the puppy saw the fun?
I could get that puppy his own bun!

What if they shared, that kit and puppy?
I would keep them warm and happy.

Do little fur balls like these things?
I do not know but let’s see what it brings.
