Day 4 – 2015 How to a Haiku Poem

"30 poems in 30 days" ~ Let's Write a Haiku!!

Pretty much everyone has tried writing a haiku poem at one time or another. They are simple and FUN!!

Haiku is a popular form of Japanese poetry. It usually centers around a nature theme, but you can make one up about anything.

Haiku poems don’t rhyme; they follow a pattern.

The pattern for haiku is as follows:

Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables
Line 3: 5 syllables

You need to pay attention to the number of SYLLABLES, not words.

Here’s an example from a lesson plan I got online once – no author credit given, sorry:

Clouds float slowly by
Fluffy, lumpy, cotton balls
Silver, gray, and white

Here’s one I wrote a few years  ago:

A soft, gentle breeze
Tickles leaves in my front yard
And I know He’s there.

GENTLE REMINDER: Obviously, any poetry that is shared in the comments section of this blog is the property of the person who shares it. The poem is their original work and no one may use it in any form without their express permission. It is understood that they own the copyright to it. Just a little reminder. Thanks!!
And if you choose to post your poems on your own blog – that’s awesome. But please don’t just copy and paste my daily instructions, but rather post your poem and LINK BACK TO THIS BLOG POST for others to read the instructions. Thanks for respecting my work.

The Savior loves us
He created all nature
To show us His love.

How can we be so
disapproving of the Lord
In these gifts he gave. (John S)

Today-
Butterflies sleep in
The utmost branches of my pine
Mid fragrant needles.

Winner of an award in third grade-
Flying on the breeze
Pretty colors floating by
Sister of a moth

I can't seem to keep up during conference weekend. A day late and a poem short!
Here you go for yesterday!

Lilies reaching high
toward the warm golden sun
remembering Him

General Conference
Hear counsel, get direction
Then we go and do.

Trials of this life are
Oportunities to grow
Closer to the Lord.
