Day 4 – 2015 How to a Haiku Poem

"30 poems in 30 days" ~ Let's Write a Haiku!!

Pretty much everyone has tried writing a haiku poem at one time or another. They are simple and FUN!! 

Haiku is a popular form of Japanese poetry. It usually centers around a nature theme, but you can make one up about anything.

Haiku poems don’t rhyme; they follow a pattern.
 
The pattern for haiku is as follows:
 
Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables 
Line 3: 5 syllables
 
You need to pay attention to the number of SYLLABLES, not words. 

Here’s an example from a lesson plan I got online once – no author credit given, sorry:

Clouds float slowly by
Fluffy, lumpy, cotton balls
Silver, gray, and white
 
Here’s one I wrote a few years  ago:
 
A soft, gentle breeze
Tickles leaves in my front yard           
And I know He’s there.
