DAY FOURTEEN ~ "5 W's Poem" for "30 Poems in 30 Days" #NationalPoetryMonth

How do you write a 5 W’s Poem?

This is an obvious poem, but can be a sweet one, or a silly one, or a serious one, depending on what you fill in. This poem answers the 5 W’s: Who, What, Where, When & Why.
They can be serious and heartfelt or light and silly depending on how you choose your words.
These poems have no need to rhyme, nor are the lines any particular length or meter. So, it’s a pretty simple poetry form to follow:

Line 1: Who (or what) is the poem about?
Line 2: What action is happening?
Line 3: Where does the action take place?
Line 4: When does the action take place?
Line 5: Why does this action happen?

I suggest you go to the Instant Poetry Maker on this one ~ it will include your ending punctuation for you when you click on the box “Create My Instant 5W Poem Now!” button. JUST BE WARNED – this little “Poetry Maker” does NOT have spell check –so be careful.

Here are five quick examples I came up with:

Jim, my eternal companion
Takes good care of me,
Wherever we are,

At each opportunity,
Because he loves me.

A group of teenagers
Making videos of being silly,
At the local mall ,
During spring break ,
Hoping to be the next YouTube wonder.

My precious grandchildren
Want to come play with me,
At grandma's house,
As often as they can,
Because I'm lots of fun to play with.

Our loving Heavenly Father
Prepared a plan of Happiness,
In the heavens,
Before the world was,
So we could return and live with Him.

My mother, Geneal Goold Peterson
Gave up a college scholarship,
To Brigham Young University,
When she was just out of high school,
Because her mother was sick and she wanted to care for her.

What's on your mind? Just fill in the blanks with the 5W's (Who, What, Where, When, Why).

I love your 5W's poems! What fun to get an idea or scene across in just five sentences.

Pretty photo of your mother, Stephanie.

My daughter-in-law, Melinda
Is having a birthday today
She lives way out in Grantsville
So we will celebrate another day
Then we can show her how much we love her!!

My husband Larry,
Went a trip
To Washington, New Jersey, and Boston,
Over the past week
So he could visit judge, visit and negotiate.

Our Russian Blue, Anastasia,
Sits patiently with begging eyes,
Below the cupboard where her treats are stored,
This morning only an hour after being fed,
Because she knows she can get away with it.

Thank you for being our Poem Pilot through these sometimes murky waters. Here's mine for here:

Nate the Mate
Got stuck crawling quietly
Under the deck
When his mom wasn't watching
To test whether the dog could get to the garden that way. Turns out he can't.
