Let the April Poetry Challenge Commence!!! Day 1 "Yes, that's ME" poem

Well, friends - it's April 1st and this is NO April Fool's Joke - this is a CHALLENGE to write 30 Poems (of all kinds) in 30 Days!! Who is with me?

I have run this challenge twice now (the full 30 days) and it's been such fun. If you think you can't write poetry - I'll prove to you that you can!! So many poems have actual patterns or forms to follow; some are almost "fill in the blank."

This year I will still include many of the basic poetry forms but there are SO many kinds of poetry out there that I want to include some you may not have ever heard of before. Should be fun!!!

OK, here’s an easy one to start with (well, easy, except for the being vulnerable part).

Let’s get to know each other – this is simply a “Fill in the blank” style of poem.

Finish each of these lines by revealing something about yourself – it can be serious our humorous – up to you. When you are done – you will have completed a “Yes, that’s ME” poem.

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see

It’s all clear as can be
That’s positively, absolutely me

Here's mine:

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see
My hair has a mind of its own
My eyes see what’s important
My arms still have the strength to hug
My hands are always busy
My heart has been broken but still beats when it should
I’m always learning
I never get bored
My friends are a nice variety
I live to do the best I can
I hope I make a difference
I dream of possibilities
It’s all clear as can be
That’s positively, absolutely me

OK - your turn!! Just fill in the blanks and you'll have created your first poem for the month of APRIL 2015! It's so easy!! WHAT to do with it now that you have written it?

Well, you can post it HERE in the comments (if you wish) so we can all see how great it turned out.

You can (and should) keep a little book of your poems for the month. You can post your poem on your own blog - BUT IF YOU USE MY DIRECTIONS from this blog post, please at least link back to me here (getting permission is even better and the most considerate way).

You can post your completed poem on your FB wall - that's always fun. Come with a cool way to display your poetry for the month and let us know in the comments. Cheers!!

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see
My hair, shorter than before, is easy and carefree,
My eyes seek light, color and beauty.
My arms carry loads beyond what I believe I can,
My hands become the hands of the Lord as I hear His voice and follow.
My heart is inordinately full.
I’m stronger than I know.
I never, ever, ever give up.
My friends have been given to me by God.
I live happier and more completely than I ever imagined I would.
I hope to bring joy to the lives of others.
I dream vividly and profoundly,
It’s all clear as can be
That’s positively, absolutely me

My hair is long
My eyes are green
My arms are full of those I love
My hands are busy
My heart is brimming
I'm happy and free
I never think bad of others I see

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see
My hair is short and its care is easy.
My eyes are tired much of the time.
My arms are strong, they carry a large brood.
My hands are important to my work.
My heart is full of gratitude for many blessings.
I’m busy and lazy at the same time.
I never drink diet Coke, always diet Pepsi.
My friends satisfy my different needs.
I live to create.
I hope to do more.
I dream of peace and quiet.
It’s all clear as can be
That’s positively, absolutely me.

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see
My hair is always changing, right now it is curly
My eyes are blue or gray depending on the day
My arms are always ready to hug someone near
My hands are busy and keep me out of trouble, most of the time
My heart is a tender one and tears come easily
I’m deeply committed to my Heavenly Father
I never like to fight
My friends are like lifesavers
I live for my family
I hope I can make a difference in the lives of my grandchildren
I dream of a world of peace and love
It’s all clear as can be
That’s positively, absolutely me

Yes, thats me
Look and you'll see
My hair has lost its curl
My eyes are deep blue
My arms are always full, it seems
My hands are think and small
My heart is full of love
I'm always creating
I never go against the rules
My friends are far away
I live from day to day
I hope for wishes in my heart
I dream of magical things
Its all clear as can be
That's positively, absolutely me.

(p.s. this was fun!)

I did it, but it ended up being kind of personal so I'm not posting. But I kind of hope this gives me something to prime the pump each day so i can meet my word count goals. Thanks!

So mine turned out kind of dark today. Honestly, if I wrote the poem tomorrow it would probably be very different! Oh, and I took a few liberties. Here it is:

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see
My hair burnished to its original glory,
Eyes, soft and searching
Arms folded protectively
Hands unfamiliar
Heart protected with battered layers
Teetering on the edge. . .
I never know where my emotions will be.
My friends do not know
I live in constant battle
Hoping for normal days,
Dreaming beneath shadows.
It’s not all clear to me
That I am who I’m supposed to be.

Stacy, Peggy and Cassie ~

I’m loving your poems as well. So glad you joined us!! And Anika, you never have to post them if you don’t wish to share but I’m so glad you wrote one today and it spurred you on. You may have some you want to share later . . . or not . . . Either way, It will be great.

And Wendi – I loved that you made the poem your own. Your frankness has its own beauty.

Well done, ladies – and to whomever else wrote or will write to day but chooses not to share.

Very cool!!! Cheers!!

I did this because I saw Kristine John post the challenge on Facebook and I wanted to try my hand at this challenge. Since you were the original poster I will post here as well as Facebook. Hope you enjoy!

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see
My hair has earned me love since day one.
My eyes are chocolate that hasn’t been tempered.
My arms on Sundays are filled with bundles of joy.
My hands are my favorite part of me.
My heart aches for adventure.
I’m nice…at least that’s what THEY say.
I never can solve a Rubik’s cube.
My friends often forget my full first name.
I live with my two best friends.
I hope to always be of service.
I dream that reality won’t break me.
It’s all clear as can be
That’s positively, absolutely me

It doesn't flow very well but I like it so that's a step forward for me. :D

Yes, that's me
Look and you'll see
My hair changes colors with my whims
My eyes search for others to love
My arms reach for the babies in our ward, and their arms reach back
My hands create things with key boards, pens, hooks, needles, paint and glue, for my loved ones.
My heart soars, and breaks, and loves again, flares and forgives, and loves more.
I'm always thankful for my husband.
I never lose my taste for chocolate.
My friends come in a variet of ages.
I live in my cozy house in my cozy town in a cozy county by the sea.
I hope my friends and family know how much I love them.
I dream of writing something meaningful.
It is all clear as can be
That is positively, absolutely me!

Such a GREAT first day!!

I'm not exactly sure who signed in as "Anonymous" (apparently a friend of Kristine John's), but I LOVED her poem!! And Deborah, you always amaze me with your poetry. Nicely done!!

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see
My hair has aged and thinned
My eyes illustrate cost and ecstasy
My arms take but habitually provide
My hands are knowledge obsessed
My heart is silver-lined shards
I’m on a perpetually fluctuating divine expedition
I never absorb the principal stretch
My friends consume me and it’s sufficient
I live in a progressive realm as a perpetual presence
I hope I’m as blameless as I rely on
I dream the modifications I live will come presently
It’s all clear as can be
That’s positively, absolutely me

better late than never. :}

Oh, my gosh, Erica - I LOVE it!! Thanks - it's NEVER too late! Cheers!!

Yes, that’s me
Look and you’ll see...
My hair isn't as blond as it used to be, but
my eyes still see me.
My arms swing about in constant activity until...it's done and
my hands are finally still for the day.
My heart is strong-knowing sometimes victory is retreat.
I’m always thinking, but only sharing when my thoughts are complete.
I never want to settle. The best is meant to be.
My friends are pieces of me.
I live in each moment. Moments make a life.
I hope to be enough.
I dream of forever.
It’s all clear as can be
That’s positively, absolutely me.
