Day 14 - April 14th is National "Poem in Your Pocket" Day!!

So I'm posting this early so you will know that Thursday, April 14th, I'm just going to "set you free" (as in FREE verse). Write any kind of poetry you want to.

Inasmuch as April 14th is National "Poem in Your Pocket" Day I'm also going to post the Poem FOR THIS DAY by Beatrice Schenk de Regniers and give you a link you can explore!! The main idea is to: select a poem you love during National Poetry Month then carry it with you on "Poem In Your Pocket Day" (April 14th), sharing it with co-workers, family, and friends.

Enjoy!! Feel free to post any poems you want to share in the comment section. I've noticed several readers are taking their creations over to their own blogs to share. Way cool!!!!

Here's the poem:

Keep a Poem In Your Pocket

By Beatrice Schenk de Regniers
Keep a poem in your pocket
And a picture in your head
And you’ll never feel lonely
At night when you’re in bed.

The little poem will sing to you
The little picture bring to you
A dozen dreams to dance to you
At night when you’re in bed.

So - -

Keep a picture in your pocket
And a poem in your head
And you’ll never feel lonely
At night when you’re in bed.

In case you just got here - I'm running this challenge with two email groups - both are writing some amazing poetry - it just doesn't show up here. By the number of visits I see recorded daily, there's a great deal of interest and quite a few shy poets. I hope you are writing poetry for yourselves with each prompt. You certainly don't need to post it here, but an ocassional "hello" is always appreciated. :)

You didn't actually suggest a poem style, but I gave it a shot just now.

We've been challenged each day
to find something to say
in the style suggested by Stephanie

Here's one that's just fun
and I won't have to run
If I rhyme it now with an epiphany

I will post this right here
and I want to make clear
that now I might not make it in infamy

For rhyming a word
that is sort of absurd
Can be baffling and a total mystery!

I’M JUST A MOM
“I’m just a mom”, I sigh at the end of the day.
No one cares what I do or what I say
It doesn’t matter that I have cooked and cleaned and slaved all day
I’m still just a mom at the end of the day.

“Mum I love you” my granddaughter says
As she throws her arms around me.
“Dear, have I told you how much I love you today”?
Asks my loving honey.

“Mommy can I get you something? Are you all right”
Questions my oldest girl.
Wait! I don’t understand what is happening
As my head begins to swirl.

What happened to “I’m just still a mom”
To those who love me I am mom, mommy, mother, dear
Mum, grandma, sweetheart, someone who’s calm
And suddenly it all becomes so clear
I hold the most sacred calling of all Motherhood.
